We are learning about explanations, here are some hints on the difference between instructions and explanations.

Dictionary.com defines instructions as:
  • The act or practice of instructing or teaching; education.
  • Knowledge or information imparted.
  • An item of such knowledge or information.
  • Usually, instructions. orders or directions: The instructions are on the back of the box.
  • The act of furnishing with authoritative directions.
  • Computers. A command given to a computer to carry out a particular operation.

While, explanations are defined as:
  • The act or process of explaining.
  • Something that explains; a statement made to clarify something and make it understandable; exposition: an explanation of a poem.
  • A meaning or interpretation: to find an explanation for a mystery.
  • A mutual declaration of the meaning of words spoken, actions, motives, etc., with a view to adjusting a misunderstanding or reconciling differences: After a long and emotional explanation they were friends again.

For example: He explained the story well, an explanation was required as to what he was taking about, an explanation was required as to why he was here, an explanation was required as to why he didn’t complete his work, an explanation was required as to why he was late, etc.

Remember, when writing an explanation choose a topic you know well.

Mason was our parachute launcher!  He did a fantastic job.  The slowest (the best) parachute took 3 seconds to hit the floor.

Week 5

Kia ora

We were all very disappointed that the Friday Sport was cancelled after such a fantastic start the week before.  Unfortunately the long term forecast for this Friday also looks bleak as far as Sport is concerned.  Hopefully things will improve.

Spelling
I now write the weekly spelling words on a card and leave them above my desk.  So if your child is not at school on Friday please tell them to get the words from above my desk.

Reading
Thank you for signing your child's notebook.  I collect the notebook's on a Thursday and I'd expect the children to have read 4 times a week.

Reading Eggs
Please have a discussion with your child about the very exciting e-learning reading experience we have started in class.

Responsibility
It has been pleasing to see the children putting their School polar fleeces in their bags when they are not wearing them.

Looking forward to a great week of learning in Room 10
